Vancouver, BC and Bellingham, WA – Despite heightened security concerns and the relative weakness of the U.S. dollar, the USA is still the most lucrative and available market in the world – especially for Canadians. Right now, when others are hesitant, is a great time for a Canadian business to stake its position in the U.S. market. With careful planning, the initial cost can be minimal, but the long-term payoff will be enormous.
This optimistic message comes from the cross-border trade team that regularly presents the seminar, Doing Business in the USA. To emphasize the current opportunity, the group is offering Ten Tips for Better Border Business, a free one-page primer designed to help Canadian business people understand the practical basics of crossing the border.
“Here are the simple facts” says group spokesman, Jim Pettinger: “First, the U.S. border is open for business – more money has been allocated for facilities and staffing, and the NEXUS dedicated commuter lanes are open for pre-approved travelers. Second, American buyers (a) love foreign goods, (b) have double the purchasing power of Canadian buyers and (c) make their buying decisions three times as fast. And third, your business presence in the U.S. can lead to a green card and dual-citizen status if you wish.”
The cross-border trade advisory team includes: Jim Pettinger, President, International Market Access, Inc., providing Canadian exporters with USA business identity, transportation, warehousing and order fulfillment services, Bill Murphy, Sales Service Representative, UPS Supply Chain Solutions, Inc., a Licensed US Customs Broker, Greg Boos, Attorney at Law specializing in international immigration law, Max Legg, Partner, Moss Adams LLP, Certified Public Accountant, focusing on USA and cross-border investment and tax issues, and Gene Moses, Attorney at Law, specializing in corporations, business formation, and commercial transactions.
