Foreign companies need to select the right USA business structure
Many Canadian and other foreign entrepreneurs use the "Ready, Fire, Aim" approach when entering the USA market with their products or services.
On the one hand, it's very easy to begin marketing and sales in the USA. That can be done "virtually" via phone, fax, e-mail or an internet e-commerce website; or in person as a "temporary business visitor". But, on the other hand, if your sales take off, or your employees say the wrong thing at the border, or your products come under extra scrutiny, you may at best end up with egg on your face, but likely much worse.
Consequently, it makes sense to review your basic options up front, even if you defer some actions until later.
As a starter, our long-time associate, Bellingham business attorney Gene Moses, has published a useful article on his newly revised website, www.GeneMoses.net. His article, "Ten Common Mistakes Made in Business Expansion and Entity Formation" can be viewed here.
